Message from Chairman Sue P. Everhart – December 21, 2011
|
|
Dear Friends,
I’d like to start off by thanking each of you for sticking with us through another year. Though 2011 was an ‘off-election year,’ you would have never known it by watching the sights, sounds and activities of Georgia’s Republican grassroots throughout the past twelve months. It is often said that a winning effort begins with preparation, and if this past year was any indication, we are well on our way to great things in 2012!
At the Georgia Republican Party, we pride ourselves on our continuing efforts to grow our Republican ranks from the top of the ticket to the very bottom. We experienced a higher-than-normal turnover rate in the General Assembly this year, resulting in a flurry of Special Elections that ultimately allowed us to celebrate Republican victories in eight races, with a ninth GOP victory still to come on January 3rd. It was an honor to welcome the newest Republican members of the Georgia General Assembly, and I am thrilled to see what the future holds for our blossoming leaders.
Over the past year, we have also had the privilege to welcome dozens of local and county officials who have “seen the light,” as I like to say, and have affiliated with the Republican Party. From County Commissioners to Sheriffs to School Board members, and at each and every office in between, we have continued to welcome these leaders to the Georgia Republican Party with open arms.

Holiday Message from GAGOP Faith Based Outreach Chairman Terri Green
|

Dear Fellow Georgians,
It’s hard to believe that another year is almost gone and that Christmas week is upon us. It is the time of advent (Anticipation and Hope) for us to prepare our hearts for the birth of the Savior. Christmas can be a time where there is a sense of wonder, beauty, and excitement. It is the music, the look of surprise on a child’s face, and the amazing food. It’s the companionship of family and good friends. It can be a time for reflection on the year past, and pondering on all that we’ve faced individually, and as a country. Most importantly it is the birth of Jesus Christ, which gives us focus for the year to come, and a promise for the future that we can place our confidence in. (For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. – Isaiah 9:6)
It is also Hanukkah for our Jewish friends. Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday celebrated for eight days and nights. It starts on the 25th of the Jewish month of Kislev, which coincides with late November-late December on the secular calendar. The story of Hanukkah also fits the political culture of the United States. It’s underlying narrative recalls that of the Pilgrims: A persecuted religious minority, at great cost, breaks free of their oppressors. It wasn’t separatist Protestants seeking freedom from the Church of England in 1620, but Jews in the land of Israel triumphing over their Hellenistic overlord in 167–164 B.C., reclaiming and purifying their holiest site, the Jerusalem Temple. (reference from – The Wall Street Journal, The Story of Hanukkah Mr. Levenson, a professor of Jewish studies at Harvard Divinity School, is co-author with Kevin J. Madigan of “Resurrection: The Power of God for Christians and Jews” (Yale University Press, 2008).

News from the Gwinnett County Republican Party
|

Please enjoy the following Gwinnett GOP Year-End Update from Chairman Bruce LeVell:
Dear Fellow Republicans,
The Gwinnett Republican Party has had a very successful 2011, building excitement and enthusiasm that we will translate into “boots on the ground” in the effort to elect a Republican President in 2012, while holding and expanding on our local and state GOP seats. I hope that you have been able to join us for one of our monthly breakfast rallies, town hall meetings, or special events this year, and we have even more planned next year.
To kick off 2012 the right way, we are excited to have special guest Congressman Joe Wilson from South Carolina (of “You Lie!” fame during one of the President’s addresses to the House) for the Gwinnett GOP 2012 Kickoff Rally, taking place on Thursday night, January 12th at 7:30 p.m. at 550 Trackside, 550 N. Clayton Street in Lawrenceville, the site of our monthly breakfast rallies. Congressman Wilson will be joined by our very own Congressmen Rob Woodall and Paul Broun, as well as a host of other state and local elected officials. This will be an event you won’t want to miss! (Just prior to the 2012 Kickoff Rally, we will have our regular January county committee meeting at 550 Trackside at 7:00 p.m.)

Gilmer GOP Hosts 3rd Annual Christmas Dinner & 2nd Amendment Observance: Black Tie & Levi
|
On Dec 9th, The Gilmer Co. GOP held its third annual Christmas Dinner and 2nd amendment observance, a black tie and levi event. This year’s theme was The U.S. Constitution. Ninety-seven folks signed up and paid $15.00 a ticket to attend the event, held once again at the Cameron Hall Assisted Living Center in Ellijay. That wonderful facility pulls out all the stops for the quality of its food and the efficiency of its staff. A Cameron Hall employee, Raquel Bustos, after the pledge and a prayer, sang an opening rendition of “I’m Glad to be an American” that revved up the blood of the conservative diners and set an up beat pace for the dinner and program that followed.
The evenings program included tongue in cheek remarks by George McClellan, Gilmer Chairman, on how to recognize the differences between conservatives and liberals and how those differences came to be. Senator Steve Gooch offered a few brief remarks and introduced former Senator Chip Pearson who, in a solemn moment, eulogized the memory of our own political work horse Bess Connor, recently deceased. Chip then introduced the speaker of the evening Sue Everhart, whose remarks focused on the mission of the next year to defeat Barak Obama.

President Obama’s Approval Rating Sinks Among “Middle Class” Voters
|
| Recent polling figures from Gallup show that President Obama’s Job Approval Rating among America’s “Middle Class” has fallen below 42% nationally, a 26-point drop since his inauguration. This is a very troubling figure for the President, who often claims to be a champion of middle class economic policies. Nationwide, many Independent voters self-identify in the “Middle Class,” and thus these figures spell a major problem for Barack Obama’s reelection hopes in 2012.

Oglethorpe County Republican Party Hosts Successful Toy Drive for Soldiers’ Families
|
| Despite the poor economy and the struggles of many families in our communities, the Oglethorpe County Republican Party Toy Drive was a huge success. In partnership with the Georgia National Guard, the local party collected toys to be donated to the families of Georgia soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, which culminated at the party’s annual Christmas Pot Luck Supper. “This is an extremely worthy cause and it is the least that we can do. These men and women are fighting for our freedom overseas, expecting nothing in return. This is a way that we can show our support to their families at Christmas time—a lonely time for the soldiers and families alike,” said County Party Chair Kirk Shook. “This is one less thing these military families will have to worry about.”
The Georgia National Guard is estimating that they will have over 500 families to serve this year. Newly appointed Adjunct General Jim Butterworth was schedule to speak at the event, but was unable to attend because of a last-minute scheduling conflict. Program Kim Garrett expressed her gratitude, “We are overwhelmed by the amount of support we have received around the state. Oglethorpe County’s contribution of over 200 toys and 10 bicycles will be a big help. Your generosity means more than you know. It will go a long way!”

Help Lead the Charge Today!
|
| The Georgia Republican Party is fully committed to electing a Republican President in 2012. However, Victory won’t be achieved simply because we won the last elections. Victory can only be achieved by working hard each and every day to win the next elections. With President Obama committed to raising $1 billion for his reelection, we have a lot of work to do. A $1-billion campaign means about $1.858 million for every electoral vote, which works out to about $30 million here in Georgia alone.
There’s too much at stake to leave the election of 2012 to chance. And that means there’s too much at stake to wait until 2012 to get started. Please consider contributing $15, $25, $50 or any amount to help Georgia do its part to send Barack Obama back to Chicago! |
